Interview
I had to submit through email my resume, cover letter and several writing samples. Then they said they were interested in me and they asked me to complete a writing skills test within the next 48 hours. Then once I submitted that, they asked me for a Skype interview and I was offered the position following that interview.

How were my goals in life going to benefit from this internship?
It was a very simple interview. No surprise questions. A very short interview only lasted 10 minutes or so. The interviewer did not ask many follow up questions. Just read the questions off a list.
I met virtually with interviewer. They asked basic questions about my level of experience and why I wanted the position. They also allowed plenty of time for any questions I had.

Easy overall, just ask background and why you want to write. Pretty sure they take everyone that applies and is somewhat competent. Any position has similar result, not just writer position.
