      Financial Advisor Interview

      Feb 18, 2021
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Detroit, MI
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Thrivent (Detroit, MI) in Oct 2020

      Interview

Beyond disorganized, dodged a bullet. I had 6 "interviews" with them from OCTOBER till Mid February. They contacted me a month later after I applied (I honestly forgot I even applied). Set-up a "job introduction" for the first "pseudo-interview". Makes sense. It's a quick 15 min feeler describing what the job is and if you have any questions. Fine. After if you're interested they make you fill out a long questionnaire online who you are as a person the typical stuff. The next part is a follow-up 1st official interview . During all my interviews the interviewee said very little / next to nothing only kept asking if I had any questions which I had many rd 1. Something seemed off about their energy. Moving onto rd 2. Before rd2 they make you first load up a sheet of how many people (150 minimum) you know and who can contact to sell INSURANCE to. They keep pushing the idea of "financial advisor" but later interviews showed they're heavily insurance focused. Life-insurance, annuities ect. ESPECIALLY towards their proprietary insurance products. They will not tell you this outright but will dance around/look hesitant if you make any mention about bonds/mutual funds ect ect. You must also do a "job simulation" where you contact 10 of your friends ask general financial questions and try to ask for leads. That's cool and applicable. Rd 2 interview is fine but again your first gut instinct is they're just searching for someone with connections and it's pretty evident in this interview that's the goal i.e. they just outright ask if you know anyone high networth/ lots of connections. Which I do but I wanted to be definitive that they wanted me not my figurative "pocketbook", so we lie "kind of". After that interview I was left to rot in purgatory. Their priority in me went to the bottom. 2 weeks or so to follow ups. Before rd 3 I had to get fingerprinted in the middle of nowhere. Rd3 was the same thing "do you have any questions" I had a couple at that point more detailed/pointed but only so many you can ask. Okay, cool, great moving on to rd 4 another 2 weeks went by and I heard nothing. So I emailed the interviewee from rd 3, radio silence. I get a call a couple of days later that a sudden departure happened and I need to reschedule an interview with another interviewee. rd4 interview was an interesting guy but he did the "do you have any questions" which at this point if I do have anymore questions that's concerning that I am just not getting it aha! I had a couple but at this point this process has more than gotten out of hand and I didn't bring my A game. I realized if this is how jumbled an interview process was I would rather just not work here at this point. He might of sensed that to which I didn't care one way or the other. After this interview 2 weeks went by AGAIN. I had to send another follow up email asking if they made a decision to continue the process to, you wont believe it, ANOTHER INTERVIEW. 3 days later I got a phone call that said no due to the personality survey I did after rd 1 in October now Feb. All in all I feel second hand embarrassment for this company and how disorganized it was. Along with shame on myself for continuing and enabling their hooplah.

      Interview

Multiple round interviews. Initially met with the marketing directors, then came on-site for live interviews. Final interviews were over the phone. Nothing technical, more mindset focused, making sure you are a right fit for the team.

      Application

I interviewed at Thrivent (Edison, NJ)

      Interview

It was pretty casual, asked me questions more about personality than technical skills. The process took around four interviews, where I met with a singular guy at first and then with a team.
