Total Quality Logistics Business Analyst interview questions

I did a phone interview with a lady on the phone and then she set me up for a zoom interview which I thought was going to be with the hiring manager. Why did I have to do 2 interviews with her and she asked the same questions. Plus at the end she asked for the last 4 of my social security number, my middle name and my current salary. When I told her I was not comfortable giving that info she said "When we pull your background we will find out your previous salary". I have no idea the reasoning behind this. I asked people online and they said it was good I didn't give that info because of possible identity thief. When did companies start asking for this info
