I applied through an employee referral. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at TransPerfect (Maynard, MA) in Jan 2023
Interview
(Frontend) Starts out with a phone screen with the engineering manager. Then a meeting with the engineering team to meet them and get some background on experience, and finally a technical based on the current stack with both direct (i.e., looking for a specific answer) and open ended questions.
Interview questions [1]
Question 1
Why is fetching in useEffect considered a suboptimal pattern? What are some better options for data fetching in React?
1. applied online 2. The recruiter called me with no early notice 3. Tech interview with 3 people from the tech team. One of them didn't even open the camera. 4. Live coding interview, this time no one opened their camera, plus they also muted themselves for most of the time.
Overall, it was a weird and unpleasant experience.

Interview
Interviewers were very stuck-up and obsessed with Javascript trivia. Also their salaries were too low. They also want Senior Devs to take on tasks outside of the core-skill set. Either they are not actively recruiting, on their internal culture is very bad. Felt vey much like talking to college-bro's. Interviewers did not turn on their cameras which I felt was very strange. Even if they had offered me a job after the interview I would not have taken it.

Interview
First interview. A call of 15 minutes with two software engineers, they asked me general programming questions. Second interview. General Programming questions again (They ask always the same questions) and two rounds of live coding. During the call, the majority of the interviewees were ass-kissing the engineering director, they seem to be asking permission for everything, this was the type of environment in the team I interviewed with. It appears that there is a lack of experience among the team members in how to properly conduct an interview, and some members of the team, including the director, are giving you attitude. Their software engineering skills could use some work too. The pay range that they offer for a senior engineer is ridiculous low too, interview with them only if you want to practice as I did, you cannot be serious to join this company. It is evident from my interview that the culture and environment is toxic and working with many of these people would be a nightmare.
