I applied through college or university. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at TxDOT (Austin, TX) in Apr 2014
Interview
Very easy going. I was told to show up the interview in casual attire, polo and jeans. I was asked to talk about myself just to get going. Then I was asked to talk about some of my experience working in the field as well as my work at school. I only interviewed for about an hour and then was shown around the office. After only that one interview I was offered a position about 2 weeks later pending a drug test and physical, because it is a state agency.

I filled out an application (Online) then had a phone or in-person interview. They usually have a lot of other activities (career fair, online information sessions) that would really benefit your chances.
I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at TxDOT (Austin, TX) in Feb 2020
Interview
I applied online then received phone interview about three to four months later and immediately obtained the position. Overall the process took longer than expected / as experienced in prior years. The interview was very simple and seemed as if they were in a rush to fill intern positions for the summer. No technical questions I was only asked simple questions to test knowledge on the agency and prior work experience.
