I got the call from the HR rep about the job. Looking at my resume, she asked if she could bring Mr. Director Guy, the hiring manager’s boss, into the interview because she thought I might be a match for another opening they had. “Sure,” I said.
Mr. Director Guy came in. We talked. We hit it off. We got on well. I mentioned having portfolio samples. I asked for his personal e-mail address said that I would send them over to him after we finished our call. We scheduled a call with the hiring manager for the following day.
The hiring manager interview call, with Mr. Director Guy taking part, started at 5 PM. We all talked for a bit, getting to know each other. After a few minutes, I sort of took charge and started working through my list of questions. Eventually, I got down to the question where I asked them how I did so I could address objections and promote my candidacy.
Mr. Director Guy asked if I could hold on for a couple of minutes. “Sure,” I told him.
Maybe five seconds later he came back on and offered me the job. Maybe he had offered it earlier, sort of, when he went over compensation for the job, plus the benefit package. He told me that they would send a formal offer to me the following day.
