Three people interviewed me. I wasn't very confident about my answers, but I was offered the job. The background check wasn't as extensive as it is for UC Davis Health.
I wasn't trained, and when I tried to participate in meetings to learn about our initiatives, I was chastised for coming off as aggressive. About a month into my I was also a part of a panel interview for another applicant for a media specialist. Two people were interviewed and tasked with an assignment. The first applicant was white and completed the assignment. The second applicant was black and completed half of the assignment, but still, the Communications Director admitted to strongly considering the second applicant because "he would have been great for diversity".... They don't really work hard at the university... they just want a round table discussion about everything to make sure "everyone feels included." It's cute. I didn't stay long.
