      HR Generalist Interview

      Mar 3, 2026
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at UC San Diego in Jan 2026

      Interview

I applied in December 2025 and was contacted to schedule an initial interview around early January 2026. The first interview was pretty formal, lasted the full 1-hour. It was a virtual interview with a panelist of 4. They took turns asking me about 20 questions, a blend of questions that came directly from the job description and some that felt random. The very next day I was contacted to schedule a 2nd virtual interview, this time a panel of 2, more laid back given that it was 2 of the same panelists from the 1st interview. About a week after I was contacted for a 3rd interview with a higher up leader, this was also conversational to see if I'd be a good fit. Overall, I think the 1st interview was intimidating, more than I expected, but I managed to answer most of the questions using the STAR method and tried to make it light and conversational.

      Question 1

What do you know about UCSD? Tell us about yourself, why do you want to work here? What's your experience with Recruitment? Payroll? HRIS? Employee Relations? Benefits? etc. What's your least/most favorite thing about working in HR? How do you stay up-to-date with HR news?
