I applied through college or university. The process took 1 day. I interviewed at UC San Diego (La Jolla, CA) in Apr 2009
Interview
Interview was with academic coordinator and was fairly informal probably because I had extensive tutoring experience in the language. The coordinator explained the methodology used by the linguistics department in teaching its classes and asked some questions about my experience that indicated that the coordinator was looking for information about whether or not I was on board with the methodology. The interview was done in the language I would teach, but overall, it was pretty low stress. If I were interviewing, I would think of examples of teaching exercises used in the past and emphasize practical use of the language for students as the goal.

Interview
Was well carried out - specific and coordinated. Asked questions about the subject I was interviewing for and past teaching experience - pretty easy. Don't worry for most cases - only for super technical subjects and very partcular professors be worried.
