Interview
Interview process was very informal, it requires mostly the basic knowledge of your previous research. You should be able to convince the employer that you are one of the best fit for the position.
The interview was pretty standard for academia. Not much effort was put into the structure of the interview, but it seems like the interview greatly depends on the principal investigator.
I applied online. The process took 6 months. I interviewed at UC San Diego (San Diego, CA)

Academic CV submission along with 3 letters of recommendations. Followed by on site presentation interview for one hour with all lab members. Process takes 6-7 months. One on one sessions with senior lab members and techs. Also a tour of the university, campus, city.

Presentation and answering the questions about my previous research. I talked first to PI and than to all lab members and took a look around the lab. The day ended with my presentation and answering questions regarding my previous research. The overall experience was good.
