Army officers have files sent to a central board who reviews their evaluations and determines if they are ready for promotion to the next rank. Individual assignments are sometimes received through an interview process. The interviews can be very informal (just conversations with hiring authority, or they can be formal interviews ranging from questions about past experiences to fully scenario driven interviews.
