      Senior Marketing Manager Interview

      Apr 11, 2016
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      New Delhi
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 3 months. I interviewed at Uber (New Delhi) in Mar 2016

      Interview

I applied to Senior Marketing Manager position in India. I applied online and heard from the HR after 2 months.I wanted sent a creative exercise to complete with 3 questions, each question had few sub-sections. The exercise was quite exhaustive – more like a 3 to 6-month work at a marketing position without any communication/creative agency help. I completed the exercise in about a week and submitted an exhaustive solution ~11 pages of MS Word. Honestly, I feel it is unfair to ask a candidate [that Uber is not paying] to complete such an exhaustive exercise at their own time. It is asking a marketing professional for free consulting that will have maybe a 1/100 chance to converting into a full-time position. I received a feedback after 12 working days that Uber will not proceed with my candidature. I completely understand the business decision. Obviously only 1 candidate will eventually covert the position. However, what was striking was the reluctance to provide any feedback on my efforts. When I urged the HR to give me a timeline by when can I expect feedback, I received a vague( and borderline rude) reply stating that ‘they appreciate the intent to learn.’ If a candidate puts ~40 hours of personal time into an exercise for a position, the least a professional organization can do is provide useful feedback to the candidate. At first, on receipt of the exercise, I felt that Uber is a great organization that would urge the candidates to invest considerable time into putting together an exhaustive solution. However, on hindsight, I do feel it’s unfair to ask someone to invest a lot of personal especially when an organization cannot provide few lines of constructive feedback on the effort. I would give Uber a miss for any career opportunity in the future.

      Interview

HR interviewer was quite friendly although didn't know much about the exact responsibilities of the person they were looking for. Then they sent a task which I completed easily. I waited for 3 weeks and didn't get any feedback and decided to contact them myself and ask for an update. The HR girl wrote me that the headcount was filled by an internal transfer. Well, even in such cases, I should have been contacted and informed accordingly.

Why do you want to change your work? What are you doing at you workplace now? What do you know about Uber?

      Interview

Heard back from recruiter after applying for the job on Linkedin and had a great phone interview with him. At the end of the interview, he said he would discuss with hiring team and get back to me. A few days later I received a canned email response saying thank you for applying but we are moving on to other candidates, the same canned response you would get when you apply and are rejected right away.

      Interview

Applied online and got an email on the same day to schedule an interview, chose the next available time slot (nearly 1 week after the email). Then, on the morning of the interview date got a cancelation notice that the position has been filled. Highly unprofessional.
