I was ultimately left disappointed, frustrated, and disrespected by my experience with UMG. The process began on a promising note: I had a genuinely helpful screening call with an in-house recruiter who gave me more detail and insight than most companies ever provide at that stage. I left that call optimistic, feeling that UMG took the candidate experience and recruiting process seriously. Unfortunately, it was all downhill from there. My next (and only) interview was a 30-minute conversation with the hiring manager. Both the recruiter and hiring manager explicitly pitched it as an informal, preliminary discussion before the formal interview and assessment stages would begin. I was told it was only a conversation, was asked almost nothing about my professional background, and was allowed to use that time to ask any questions I had about the role and hiring process. What added to the confusion and disappointment was that much of what the hiring manager told me contradicted what the recruiter had shared about the interview process itself. I asked the hiring manager thoughtful questions and tried to clarify these discrepancies during our limited time. I was informed that I was among a select few candidates being considered for the role, and that the screening call and conversation with the hiring manager were not evaluative. Yet, I was later told I was rejected outright, without ever being given the chance to actually undergo the formal interview and assessment process. The rejection came from someone I had never spoken with in HR. There was no follow-up whatsoever when I responded with questions and a request for feedback, despite their email explicitly inviting me to do so. I sent two respectful follow-ups over the course of two weeks, and both were completely ignored. I was misled and rejected before I ever had a chance to even discuss my background, let alone to demonstrate any relevant skills. The whole process felt inconsiderate and disorganized. I’d caution other professionals to approach with lowered expectations.

Applied online and then contacted by recruiter for a phone screen. I had to follow up and waited several days for response to schedule a phone interview. The interview was typical phone screen but recruiter was not that friendly.
