Apply online. This will follow up by a telephone interview and then an onsite interview.
During the telephone interview, they basically chat with you. Actually the Search Committee is completely clue less as to what to ask and what they are looking for. However, if you are not Caucasian then you might feel a snob and might be required to answer many unnecessary questions. If you just stay cool and be nice, and say that you can teach any kind of course, that is enough. I basically did that and said nice things about UTah. And, I got invited for onsite interview.
Later I was in several search committees and I saw that this is the only thing that the committee is hoping for. If you are very unfortunate, then you might have one single person in the search committee who might ask you more technical question to see whether you are capable of doing what you are proposing. However, one does not need to worry about this one person, as s/he will be outnumbered and also will be the least popular person in the committee.
Onsite interview is also pretty much like the telephone interview, just 2 days long. Be charming and say nice thing about the work of the people. I know the latter part is hard, but you do not have to be technical just read the title and abstract of one or two papers and say how creative and thorough the works are. This is exactly what I did (and many others who came later) and I got hired!
Once you get hired keep written document of everything that is being agreed upon between you and the faculty body and/or administration.
