The process goes as follows: you apply online, they contact you back and ask you few questions. Next, you have to do multiple mock-up classes, then, when you passed, you upload your document and create an account. Finally, you can sign the contract.
I was their candidate who had already gone through the entire LONG process. I have done it all: set up my class with whiteboards, purchased lighting systems and children teaching materials, watched a multitude of video, read multiple articles, attended multiple mock-up classes in order to teach for them. I was blessed with two very good and helpful mentors so I passed the notoriously difficult mock-up classes rather easily. Once I passed, however, I had an issue with the uploading my document section because they would not accept my TEMPORARY GREEN CARD (issued by the US government to work normally until my Permanent one arrived.) I emailed them asking for an extension and they replied that THEY WILL. Nonetheless, as the deadline came, they locked my account and did not response to any of my subsequent emails for 5 days.
The cruel joke was that my PERMANENT GREEN CARD did arrived on that precise deadline. While trying so very hard to get in touch with the HR department (emailing to their support system, creating a new account to contact their real-time help chat, and calling their US office,) I was asked to go send more emails and that they "cannot do anything on their end". I was so desperate that I record new mock-up class via my new account just to get their attention on the matter. The result was the same, they blocked all of my communicative channels. Of course, sending teacher tickets was not possible for me due to the fact that I was locked from the system and was not considered their official teacher yet. With no possible way to contact them, I believe they had rejected me at this point.
When I first applied for VIPKID, I was very impressed of what an upbeat and positive organization they were. I was most impressed with their diverse policy to even consider a non-native speaker like me as their potential candidate. Although I have a Masters’ in TESOL, without a US teaching license, I admit that finding a teaching job is hard and their acceptance indeed lifted up my spirit. In addition to this, I got so many positive reviews from their mentors and with the last email addressing that "they cannot wait for me to showcase my skills," I was hopeful, very hopeful. Now, with the one document they asked for me in my hand, I was rejected from proving my worth and they would not even give me a reason why. It led me to think what if I had made it? What if something worse happened while I was working for them? What if they forgot to transfer my payment and what they can do is simply erase me from their contact?
All I can say is that after this review, this will be the last time I would waste another second of my thoughts on them. They have already taken too much time, money, and effort from my life. This company is highly unprofessional and they will drop you like a hot potato, leaving with ONE way channel of communication and be done with you.
