      Retail Sales Representative Interview

      Jun 13, 2013
      Anonymous employee
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 5 weeks. I interviewed at Verizon in Jun 2013

      Interview

Applied online at the beginning of May, contacted by email the following week to set up initial phone screen with HR. Phone screen consisted of very basic sales/behavioral questions and questions regarding my resume. Lasted about 15 minutes, the lady was very friendly, though sounded robotic reading questions, clearly reading from a list. That interview was on a Wednesday, I was contacted by a store manager the following Monday and set up to interview later that week. The store interview was much more in depth than the phone interview, but none of the questions were hard or unexpected, typical behavioral/STAR questions you'd expect for a sales/customer service job. I was asked questions from a packet the manager printed Interview was very laid back, more of a conversation than an interrogation as some interviews can be. Lasted about 45 minutes. Was scheduled to meet with the other manager the following week, which was a "get to know you". After that interview, I was told I'd have to interview with the district manager. At this point, they essentially told me I had the job without bluntly stating "you have the job." I was informed that the managers I had met with the previous week liked me, and that hiring was based on them telling the DM that they liked me. I interviewed with the District manager and an HR rep about a week and a half later. Feeling that I had the job, I went in very comfortable, the addition of the HR rep in this interview was unexpected, but really more of an advantage than a burden, just another person to converse with and impress. Pretty in depth, but again, laid back, I felt like I was speaking with old friends. Similar questions to the store interview, only in this interview, I had to do a role play solving a customer's issue, which they related to my current job. Was contacted the day after the DM interview by HR with an offer. Start to finish, the process took 5 weeks from online application to offer. Currently in the background check/drug screen phase, could be a month before I get started with training. Just be friendly and confident and you shouldn't have any issues. Everyone I have spoken to has been very friendly, laid back, and seemed to enjoy their job, seems like the company has a great culture and I can't wait to get started.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

When HR initially emails you, they will attach the company credo to the message. Read the credo and tie it in to your responses and in conversation. I brought it up in both the store and district manager interview and both took notes after I mentioned it. Hardest part is the role play, which isn't difficult, just be yourself and listen.

      Interview

There were three parts to my hiring process. 1. The recruiter called me and asked me questions. 2. I spoke to the Assistant Manager. They asked me standard questions and we role-played a standard sale. 3. I did an in-person interview with the General Manager. We also did a role-play as well. BE PREPARED FOR THAT.
