So far I've only done the phone interview, but it is my understanding that there are to be two more after, one with the manager and then the regional manager/director of sales or something, I don't know the exact title.
I applied online on Wednesday, copied and pasted my resume to the application. A woman from HR called me the very next day, Thursday, saying that she would like to setup a phone interview with me the following day, Friday at 10:30, but then before hanging up she said, I'll call you at 10. So I was confused at first, but I was prepared for either. She also said she would send over a document for me to read over, so she verified my e-mail address and best phone number to call.
She called me promptly at 10am. She asked me a list of very broad questions like:
1.Tell me about yourself.
2. I see here on your resume, that you worked here and here. Why do/did you want to leave?
3. Why do you want to work for Verizon? What first made you interested?
4. What do you think of Verizon's credo.
5. Do you understand the training period and background check?
6. Describe some of your retail experience?
7. Describe to me a difficult situation and how you handled it.
8. What do you think you can bring to this company?
9. What do you think of the work hours? Are you available to work holidays or move if necessary?
That's all I remember. She basically did a shallow background check over the phone. I would suggest having the Verizon document open in front of you that she sends over, perhaps your resume on hand (if not memorized). If time allows, type out possible interview questions and how you would respond to them. Just be professional, natural, HONEST and don't beat around the bush. I think I did some of that because I wasn't prepared since things moved a lot faster than I expected. Even my friend was surprised at how fast they got back to me. I will be prepared when the time comes.
Afterward, she told me she would call back in a few days to see where they need to go from there, but my friend who works there now told me that there are two more interviews and then a month long training period where you go one week training, one week at the store, etc. They reimburse you of all gas, hotel, mileage, expenses, etc. I don't think HR is open during weekends, just assuming, because now it's Monday and haven't gotten a call yet. I guess it depends on how soon they need you. Apparently, if I get through the interviews fast enough, there is a training session not far from me that starts on July 11. Hopefully, I can make that one. Otherwise, I think the next one is in August.
I know TMI for one phone interview, but when I progress further, I'll try to update.
*Update* I couldn't wait, so I called the woman back at HR, she told me she thinks that the July 11 training is all filled up now and I would have to wait for the August 1 training, that's assuming that I get hired and the manager calls me up in time to finish the next two interviews. When I asked whether I should contact them, she said, "no, just wait until they call." I hope they can get back to me quickly and still squeeze me into the July 11 one. I really need a job now and can't be waiting around for a month.
