Several pre-screening interviews that were way too intense eventually earned me an after-hours chat at 7:30pm that was more of me selling why I was the right candidate. I checked all the boxes, they ended up telling me they went with someone else but would keep me in mind in the future (which they never did). If you're external and they keep repetitively asking more than 5 "tell me about a time" questions, they probably have someone else in mind.
