I applied through a recruiter. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Verkada in Dec 2022
Interview
The recruiter was great, but the second call with the hiring manager was quite odd. Two phone screens: first with the recruiter who was amazing and then the second call was with a hiring manager.
The hiring manager was a bit rude and almost demeaning. She asked me if I had any questions regarding compensation and/or anything about the company. The recruiter had only touched on the retention piece and was avoiding talking about base compensation on the first call. Therefore, since this hiring manager opened up the convo to chat about salary I decided to ask. And she straight up says, "Sorry, I don't want to open up the comp bands sheet right now."
She was also clearly driving. It sounded like she was driving through a tunnel so it was hard to hear her and this was not a good candidate experience at all.
I am a firm believer that transparency around compensation is huge for every single candidate. As a recruiter, I believe that candidates should always have an idea of what the salary range is especially if the candidate asks and not clearly listed in the job description.
If being transparent about comp is difficult during the interview process... I can only imagine the difficulty an actual employee would have when asking about commission and/or comp within. I chose to not move forward in the interview process based on this call with the hiring manager.
Only went through with the phone screen - overall very informal phone screen process didn't get a full idea of what the role would be and what growth looked like
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 3 weeks. I interviewed at Verkada (San Mateo, CA) in Feb 2025
Interview
The hiring process was not good from my perspective. I was outreached by a recruiting manager followed up by a scheduled phone interview which he cancelled twice and shown up late by 5 minutes - 10 minutes each time which I had to send him a follow up email as a reminder. What kind of time management skill is this? Please retrain your hiring manager on basic time management skills.
