Recorded video interview for a senior management role. I was surprised that a recorded video interview was part of the process to begin with. In my opinion, this is a horrible way to vet candidates. Hiring requires human interaction, giving a candidate a series of written questions to answer while staring into a webcam is impersonal and ineffective. Furthermore, what guarantees are there that the employer is not discriminating, making a judgment based on appearance, some fine print somewhere? This was not a good experience for me as this was my first ever video interview, and I am not experienced with talking to an inanimate object. I feel as if this was an opportunity to dodge a bullet though, because if a company makes decisions on a recorded video then clearly they are not in tune with how human interaction and communication works.
