Applied online through LinkedIn. Heard back from recruiter shortly after, and scheduled phone screen next day.
Day after that talked to hiring manager, who explained in more detail the role and what would be expected of me for the rest of the interview process. Was offered a take-home coding exercise which was fuzzily described as optional, I declined due to time constraint, the alternative being a more in-depth technical assessment during subsequent interviews with Senior Engineers.
Within a couple days I had 1 long day of interviews with Product Manager, 2 Senior Engineers, and Hiring Manager again. Ranged from process questions to technical assessment to leadership fundamentals.
About a week later the recruiter called me and told me that they heard everything was positive and would have an offer letter to me within a couple days. We talked about pay, benefits, remote vs in-office, the whole nine yards as if it were a sure thing. 2 days later, the recruiter called and said the team had a "change of heart" and I would not be receiving an offer. Said they would call me back with more details but never did.
