Discussed salary upfront - HR recruiter would not get specific, but gave a fairly tight ~6k range.
Interviewed with the team Manager, went great.
Got a call from a Senior Recruiter in Atlanta who tried to renegotiate salary expectations, starting 20k below the discussed range but wouldn't offer specifics on benefits. I held firm, and indicated I could be moved by benefits/signing bonuses, etc.
Four months later after a drawn out interview process with the VP (also great), the offer came in 2k below the range, standard benefit package. When asked if it was a final offer or negotiable up to what was discussed, I was told there could be some room. I countered 5k higher - middle of the discussed range - and was ghosted by the company. I followed up three times before being told the offer was retracted, no discussion of "take it or leave it."
Everyone was very 'nice', but the final move was not professional.
