      Software Engineer Manager Interview

      Oct 20, 2020
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied through a recruiter. I interviewed at Waymo

      Interview

It was among the top 3 most awkward phone screens I ever had. As I pointed out that the position seems to be a step down and asking if there are other things, the recruiter started to ask my level and compensation. I politely shifted the conversation to asking what level she is hiring, and confirmed that it is a much junior level. So I suggested that she could wrap up the conversation if there is no better fit. She then insisted on us chatting more. So I asked couple question which all ended in she did not have the answer. In the end, she said that they are only hiring for people who are passionate about the space and hang up.
