I tried their hiring process out of curiosity and it’s all AI-based screening. It threw a ton of questions at me, mostly STAR-style, but there’s no real person involved at all. Honestly, it felt pretty awkward and impersonal, I just didn’t feel any connection to the company.
I got rejected in the end, but after checking reviews on Glassdoor, it actually feels like I dodged a bullet.
I applied through a recruiter. The process took 1 week. I interviewed at Whatnot (Phoenix, AZ) in Apr 2025
Interview
Recruiter interview went great. She treated me like a human.
2nd round I was given a skills test and told there was going to be 2 back to back zoom calls. If I could do it over again I would've created an over the top PowerPoint presentation breaking down the assignment and walking the interviewer through each step. It was zoom so I could've shared my screen. I was NOT prepared to present and didn't think the skills test was difficult, it seemed very spelled out and straight forward. I believe I bombed the interview because I assumed the case was straight forward, and that the interview would be more conversational, and that they wouldn't expect me to walk them though the steps that they had written out. Like basically they wanted me to repeat back what they had written? It's possible I missed something, but the next day I got this email:
"Thanks so much for applying to the Customer Experience Agent role at Whatnot. We really appreciate your interest in joining us and want to thank you for taking the time to apply.
Unfortunately, after reviewing your application and experience, we won't be able to invite you to the next round of our hiring process. We encourage you to keep your eyes on our careers page for future opportunities that may be a fit.
Thank you again for your interest in Whatnot and we wish you success in your job search!
Best,
The Whatnot Team" With zero feedback. It was confusing. I thought I had the job. I even thought maybe this email was sent by mistake. I had done 3 interviews. I emailed the recruiter and silence. Its been a week, so I apparently didn't get it.
