      Entry Level IOS Developer Interview

      Mar 24, 2017
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      Lexington-Fayette, KY
      No offer
      Negative experience
      Average interview

      Application

The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at WillowTree (Lexington-Fayette, KY)

      Interview

I emailed back and forth with a college recruiter for a while. She was courteous and easy going through email. We then scheduled a time I could speak on the phone with an engineer. Time was agreed upon and I took off time I had been working to take the call. I waited at least 30 minutes and never received a call. Eventually I realized from the recruiter that they forgot and we rescheduled. Finally I had a video call and coding exercise online. The Engineer was very impersonal. He did not let me finish the exercise which was very frustrating especially since he had forgotten to call the first time we scheduled. To make it worse, he never apologized for missing the call we previously scheduled. I heard back from the recruiter stating I did not have enough professional experience. What does this mean? I have 2 years of experience as an iOS Engineer yet the interview did not reflect knowledge of iOS whatsoever, so this was very puzzling to me. I was offered the chance to ask for feedback regarding my interview and why I was not selected. I chose to receive feedback yet never heard back after kindly asking twice through email to the recruiter. Very disorganized and definitely an odd technical assessment that did not at all reflect what should have been tested.

I completely understand your frustration. We looked back over (what we think was) your interview process, based on some details you gave us here. It took a very long time to get your interviews scheduled, which was our fault. There was a major miscommunication that caused the first developer to miss your interview. Then the second developer knew nothing about the missed interview and so he didn't apologize. Overall the communication was slow and not very direct. Our junior developer positions filled up very quickly this school year and so by the time we were interviewing you, we only had openings for people with more experience. I don't blame you for being frustrated with us. You did not have a good interview experience. It is our fault and we will learn from your feedback so this doesn't happen to someone else.
