I was put through 5++ rounds of interviews only for them to decide at the very end that they wouldn’t move forward with an offer. I don’t feel that they were very respectful of my time, and I was given every impression that they liked my background and were interested in hiring me throughout the process. At the very end it was indicated to me that they felt they needed someone with more visual design expertise, which I had said in interviews I’m perfectly capable of but isn’t my strongest area. In fact, one of the interviewers mentioned that they were probably over indexed in people with a visual design background, so someone with stronger skills in research and interaction design would be welcome on the team. The most frustrating part was that neither the job description nor HR or the hiring managers had indicated that visual design was a critical requirement for the role until after I was rejected.
