-received notification via email from a technical recruiter with JD, PDF describing the position, and a high level overview of the company; included a link to a schedule an interview via google calendar with a different recruiter, it was convenient.
-scheduled interview for the next day, interview started slightly later than the scheduled time but nbd.
-spoke with Aryana who had a great personality and sassy style. She did an exceptional job with answering questions I had - mostly culture related. She really sold the company with respect to desirable places to work in terms of the people. Very forward facing enterprise. We touched on the requisite information with regards to my experience level and what I was looking for. I did ask about her own experience with becoming employed at Yelp and we had a super fun - animated discussion thereof.
-as the close of initial interview came around, Aryana brought up the subject of compensation. I was a bit surprised at how low it was, especially for the bay area. The last time I made money in that range it was 2008 and in a much lower cost of living city. That was unfortunate because the position had checked all the other boxes but the comp was unrealistically low. Really a pity as it seemed like an ideal place to work otherwise. I ended up declining but I let Aryana know she was great and I know that she doesn't decide comp levels and she was very understanding. Obviously, at this point we wrapped the call up with me declining to move forward in the process.
I'm marking this as positive as Aryana got me very amped for Yelp's work culture the only negative being the comp, which is a huge consideration in this area and competitive talent market.
