I applied online. The process took 4 months. I interviewed at Youth Villages (Memphis, TN)
Interview
I applied for opportunities for future graduates in March or 2013. I was contacted through Email and scheduled a phone interview. the phone interview was 30 minutes and the recruiter asked questions about your experience and what you would do in certain situations. When it ended, she invited me to an "open house" to learn more about the organization and to interview again. I went to the open house and was seated with about seven other people. We were greeted by the recruiter and she explained a lot about Youth Villages. Afterwards, we were lead to a room where many of the hiring managers were located and we were spread out to various managers for interviews. the interview consisted of a manager asking us a set of questions on a list.
After we were finished, they spread us out into specific facilities that we would be working at to "observe" the program and the other counselors and the kids. I sat there for about an hour watching the kids before a manager got me and told me I could go home. he said he would call within the next week, though after about three weeks I finally heard from him and was asked to come do paperwork. I went in and he told me I had to go get my fingerprints and a drug screen, then he would call me again. I did that and never heard from him again, despite trying to contact him. After about three weeks since the drug screen, a manager from another campus called me to tell me the campus I interviewed for had filled their positions, and that I could try and get into that campus.
I scheduled an interview and drove up to the new campus. I met with the manager in the office and had a terrible interview. The manager was asking me questions while surfing through his email and checking his phone. It was really unprofessional. After the interview, I observed this campus for an hour until the manager told me I could leave. It was another three weeks before I finally got a rejection email.
It was very fun throughout the process. I had no issues with anybody during the interview. Basic questions about experience and how you react in situations was the majority of the interview.
They were late multiple times to the process, but they were very attentive and enthusiastic when actually interviewing me. I really enjoyed talking with the multiple people, but I did feel a bit neglected with the multiple instances of tardiness. I think it’s the nature of the company though.
