      Business Operations Rotational Associate Interview

      Oct 20, 2020
      Anonymous Interview Candidate
      No offer
      Neutral experience
      Average interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at Zillow in Sep 2020

      Interview

      - Applied online through Handshake - Received email to schedule an initial phone interview (with a current associate) - Second round was with hiring manager of the program - Day later received email that I didn't move on to the next round Overall, the interview process was good and the recruiter let me know whether I moved on to the next round (s) in a timely manner. The interview questions were very dry and scripted , ex. "Tell me about a time when..." I felt that there was a lack of personal connection and conversation with the interviews, which was a bit off-putting. I wish they spent more time getting to know each candidate's background and skills instead of reading questions off a paper. Also, I was very set on a specific career path but they're looking for people who don't exactly know what they want to do after graduation and is willing to explore a lot of different fields. The role is very sales, strategy, analytics, and operations heavy if that's what you're looking for-- for me it was not.

Hello, and thank you for taking the time to write this review. Harvard Business Review wrote a great article on conversational interviews titled “How to Take the Bias Out of Interviews” that really addresses the reason why our interview questions are so structured and conducted in the manner you referenced. We realize this may not come across as the most personal at times but we strive to remove unconscious biases from the interview process so they are as fair and equitable as possible. We hope you consider Zillow as an employer in the future. If you would like to share more, you can contact me directly at annie@zillowgroup.com. -Annie Rihn, VP of Recruiting

      Interview

Fairly simple interview process given that this is a recent grad position. Four rounds total, with one focused on problem solving and last round based in Seattle office. Team was professional, courteous, and friendly

      Anonymous Interview Candidate

      Neutral experience
      Easy interview

      Application

I applied online. The process took 2 weeks. I interviewed at Zillow in Oct 2021

      Interview

Scheduled an initial phone screening and was contacted via an incorrect number. When asked to reschedule, I was given a time almost 2 hours later with a 5 minutes notice to jump on a Zoom call. Besides the mishap, the interviewer told me "This will be quick as I'm in the middle of two other interviews" and essentially rushed me through 3 or 4 behavioral questions before concluding the meeting in less than 10 minutes (the interviews are scheduled to be 20 minutes long). While I understand this may not be the case for all interviews, my experience definitely felt a bit careless and biased. I've interviewed at plenty of company's, most at least try to act invested in what you have to say or provide feedback on your responses. This felt more like a candidate processing facility.

      Interview questions [2]

      Question 1

Elaborate on your previous role, how did you portray leadership there?

      Question 2

Give an example of a project you worked on, how did you handle the challenges?
