Domain Expertise is very essential and required. I faced a great challenge to convince my employer as is had little experience in my domain. One of the most difficult questions asked, was always, "why do you feel you would work well here" This is something that is hard to answer because the applicant really has no clue of the companies culture and a small understanding of its mission.
