A question I remember from the first interview was "What is something that is emblematic of your culture and how would you create a lesson plan to convey that?" I answered by saying that America is very diverse culturally and that I think our food was a good embodiment of our culture. I said that one way to show students this would be to have several lessons that highlight different foods from different cultures inAmerica. The interviewer who was a former ALT shot this down. He said it was going to be too expensive, I wouldn't be able to buy they ingredients for the food, and wouldn't be able to serve food to students. In my time on JET I was able to do lessons like this by working with the lunch ladies at my school to serve these meals during lunch time. You might give an answer that you think is really good but don't get discouraged. There will be more questions. In the second interview I was asked about what sort of activities I would like to get involved in outside of school. It told the interviews that I wanted to get involved in stag beetle wrestling and none of them know what I was talking about. I tried my best to explain it to them as best I could and was enthusiastic about it and they seemed confused but satisfied with my answer. I think many of the answers you give are based on your attitude and not necessarily your answer. If you go in nervous and reserved the interviewers will be less receptive to you. Be confident and genki.
