      Geology Intern Interview

      Anonymous employee
      Sunbury, England
      Accepted offer
      Positive experience
      Difficult interview

      Application

I applied online. I interviewed at bp (Sunbury, England)

      Interview

There were multiple stages to the interview process. The first was a situational judgment stage. This was a series of questions about how you would handle situations, I think there is an element of time and choice (but not sure for certain) and it is best to learn the company values before you do this. Next, there was an online interview process, here it is key not to forget your soft skills and make your answers specific and not generic, you get 2 mins to prepare, so write up some examples that link to the values beforehand. Then I had a technical interview, which was split into questions based on the company values, and the second half was technical. For geology observations, why you think something is more important than getting the answer right. It is worth recapping your basic petroleum systems knowledge

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

When did you find yourself in a situation where you disagreed with someone? How did you handle the situation?

      Application

I applied in-person. I interviewed at bp (Houston, TX) in Nov 2019

      Interview

Interviewed at the AAPG expo in Fall 2019, was emailed back to be flown in to interview at BP in Houston, TX. At this interview there was breakfast, a tour of the building, a presentation from experienced professionals and leads of divisions describing the company and the onboarding process as well as a team exercise with half of the interviewees and a technical interview.

      Interview questions [1]

      Question 1

The technical interview was one on one and the interviewer laid out a page of seismic and told you to describe what you saw. After noticing I struggled because I had yet to take seismic interpretation courses, he asked where I would drill and why.
