"When hiring a carpenter, an employer will look for someone who has completed an apprenticeship or worked as a carpenter's helper and who can demonstrate an ability to erect and rehabilitate building and other structures while maintaining a standard of safety. At an interview you may be asked about your experience as a carpenter's apprentice and any projects you may have worked on, proficiency with specialty tools such as a scissor lift, and your personal carpentry practices to ensure the safety and longevity of your products."

I have no record but they seem to have a preference of hiring ex cons because they know how difficult it is for them to find work and EXPO's policies towards carpenters is very similar to a prison labor camp. So it makes sense they would seek out men who are already accustomed to harsh conditions and little incentive.
