I didn't really get odd questions... just asking me to explain my background and experience. The IT Consultant, however, seemed less interested in my answers than standing on his own soap-box.

I can't say any of the questions were unexpected or difficult. Standard "why are you looking to leave your current position", "what are your strengths and weaknesses", etc.
General questions about background, how you would adapt to certain situations
It would not be fair to the company to reveal their most difficult or unexpected question. This question is asked to gauge a reaction and assess several apects of the candidate (creative thinking, engineering mindset, quick on your feet, etc.).
Had I lead an IT department before.
There were many questions about my background, work history, and management styles. There was also a lot of discussion centered around the mission of the organization and its culture. They are very proud of the culture they have created and it is paying off. It has been an absolutely great job change for me. I am very excited to have made the move here and joined this organization.
