Policy Analyst Interview Questions & How to Answer

Question 1

Question #1: Describe your policy analysis experience.

How to answer
How to answer: The interviewer is analyzing your employment experience and training requirements. Provide relevant examples from your employment history that match job listing criteria. For example, talk about your experience critiquing policy papers; publicizing your policy position using mass media; collaborating with legislators, community groups, and activists; and providing testimony before elected bodies.
Question 2

Question #2: Tell me about a time in which you had to use your judgment to choose between two conflicting choices.

How to answer
How to answer: With this personality-based question, the hiring manager is assessing whether you have suitable soft skills, such as judgment, problem-solving, and analysis. Use the STAR method to describe a situation in which you faced an ethical dilemma, your task in that situation, your action to resolve the dilemma, and the result. If possible, align your answer to the organization's competency framework.
Question 3

Question #3: What are the biggest problems this organization faces?

How to answer
How to answer: The hiring manager assesses your analysis, motivation, and judgment with this question. Prove your skills with an insightful, relevant answer. Research the organization in advance, do a SWOT analysis, and identify its key internal weaknesses and external threats. Summarize your findings in your answer. Prepare a strategy to address these problems and provide it if it's requested.

Very disappointing overall experience. Bored panel, not particularly friendly atmosphere. At the water, climate, biodiversity unit panel is drinking water from single use plastic bottles and offering water (not tap water) in plastic cups. I thought it was a test but it was real. I also paid 18euros to offset the carbon footprint for my flight to Paris and panel was uninterested. 1. No introduction asked, no friendly warmup chat. 2. Start with 5-7min presentation that was asked beforehand 3. Abstract question about presentation and points which are insignificant but is one of the panelists’ pet subject? 4. Why did I apply for the job? 5. Any challanges a colleague of mine faced in the past, what advice did i give? 6. How do i prioritise tasks? 7. How would i go about organising an event including getting people on board for presentations? 8. Questions to them
