Pantex delivers several national security missions that protect our country and allies around the world: providing the nuclear deterrent, ensuring our stockpile is strong and viable, reducing the total number of nuclear weapons in the stockpile, and supporting the stockpile as the High Explosives Center of Excellence.
The Pantex Plant, located northeast of Amarillo, Texas, helps ensure a safe and effective U.S. nuclear deterrent. Founded in 1942, Pantex is the nation’s primary facility for the final assembly, dismantlement and maintenance of nuclear weapons. Consolidated Nuclear Security manages and operates the site — along with the Y-12 National Security Complex in Tennessee — in support of the U.S. Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration.
