Description The Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, helps ensure a safe and effective U.S. nuclear deterrent. Founded in 1943, the site produces and stores uranium and lithium components for the nation’s nuclear deterrent while also providing feedstock for the nuclear Navy and supporting global nonproliferation efforts. Consolidated Nuclear Security manages and operates Y-12 — along with the Pantex Plant in Texas — in support of the U.S. Department of Energy/National Nuclear Security Administration.
