Pros

1Password is in a build moment that feels electric. The company is pulling the right pieces together investing in products, leadership, and people so teams have clarity and support to do great work. The pace has picked up and the bar is higher. That brings some bumps but the direction is clear and the momentum is real. If you love learning fast, collaborating with kind experts, and seeing your work matter, you will thrive here. Come help write the next chapter.

Cons

A hyper fast and evolving environment where priorities move quickly, so it’s best suited for people who can and are willing to make an impact to help take us to the next level.

Pros

1Passsword's product is amazing - after I left the company, the first thing I did was purchase my own subscription. Can't say enough good things about the product. 1Password's mission is excellent - to provide high levels of security and privacy to their customers, where you can feel proud to be contributing. The majority of people that are lower level managers or individual contributors are friendly and compassionate. Lastly - 1Password is a classic example of magnetic marketing. I give this company a good future outlook on performance, because the product is just that good, despite the disfunction behind the curtain.

Cons

It is my opinion that 1Password's culture changed dramatically after the series C round of investment. Below is a summary of my opinions and beliefs on how this has affected the company and it's employees negatively. A combination of new upper management faces and pressure from VC firms to produce results has turned this company into a cutthroat results-driven company. This by itself isn't a problem - the problem occurs when 1Password has not operated fundamentally in that capacity - so now that they are playing catchup to the new expectations put on them by the CEO and by extension, 1Password's board and investors. These conditions mean this company is turning itself into a pressure cooker of stress and hardship - day-to-day life as an IC or lower level manager will be a mix of context switching, whipsawing objectives, and firedrills. These are serious, structural issues that get compounded exponentially, if customer acquisition or a similar financial metric softens. As much as I hate to say it - I can't recommend this employer, even though they are hiring extensively in early 2023. For those of you who were recently laid off - proceed with caution if you absolutely need an income.

Pros

Remote first company is a plus

Cons

I have waited some time to comment on this, but I have finally reached the end of my patience. While 1Password is a good company, it has internal struggles that many have voiced but continue to be ignored. The sad part is realizing that the company, once so promising to work for, does not live up to its reputation. Between the compensation, lack of promotions, and disregard for the employees who contribute so much to the company's success, it's disheartening. We are constantly praised in the media and during meetings for how well the company is doing, but it seems to be JUST TALK. Most employees I've spoken with do not share the same happiness that 1Password presents because they are too busy living paycheck to paycheck to focus on anything else. Their skill sets are consistently downplayed, and they are overlooked for internal job opportunities by new hires. No wonder the average employee is estimated to have worked here for, what, two years at most. It's honestly so disheartening and sad. Between the pay bands that align with one's salary or the illogical differences in tiered positions, and the career roadmaps that lead to disappointment, it's clear that the importance of the employee is not a priority. Don't get me wrong, working here is not for everyone, but you know what is? Being paid a livable wage based on where you reside (not a competitive wage - LIVABLE). Personally, I shouldn't have to look for a part-time job because my FULL-TIME job barely pays me enough to keep my head above water. And no, this is not a situation of living above my means; it's a situation of choosing between paying my rent late or paying all my bills without making a payment arrangement. I know every company has its shortcomings, but for this to be an ongoing conversation that has been brought up for years, many employees have either left, lost passion in what they do, or, like me (until now), have gritted their teeth and hoped for a solution to finally come along. I hope this message is understood by many, and moving forward, actual change is made. It goes without saying, I don't need HR reaching out to me looking to have a "conversation" — it would be a waste of both of our time.
