Great place to get experience and grow

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

Managers are very helpful when asked questions. They all tend to want to help resolve issues or problems that arise. Upper management puts a big emphasis on team values (leadership, positive attitude, etc.) which usually weeds out any negative or unwanted personnel. Good pay. Overtime and Saturday work. Employees are given lots of responsibility as opposed to bigger companies where there's a lot of bureaucracy and forms that employees have to jump through to get anything done.

Cons

While it's clear the company is interested in continuous improvement, sometimes it takes a while to get process/policy changes effected fully. I'm sure it takes much longer at other companies, but I wanted to provide one piece of feedback.

Thanks for the nice comments and your concerns about the changes. I do agree that changes and the implementation of those changes can be a pain-point at ASC. We'll try to get these worked through the system quicker.

LIES!!!

Pros

The only pros are the people you meet and the friendships you make.

Cons

Let me start off by saying I had the same issues as the "shameless" review. Asc won't confirm employment or that you ever worked there. The pay is terrible as a LA city certified structural welder they started me off at $16/hr. Promised me more after I proved myself. "The lie detector test determined THAT WAS A LIE!" They say your safety is the #1 priority LIES! Not getting kicked off the jobsite for safety violations is their #1 priority. They send you to the field on a two week job, guess what LIE, stuck out there for six weeks or six months you never know. You are forced to work 10-12 hour days and if asked to work Saturday and you refuse that was grounds for termination.

Thank you for your review. From the tone of your review, it sounds like you have some long-standing grievance with the company. I'm sorry you feel that way, but hopefully my response will provide some sense of closure for you. I'll address each of your issues. First of all, ASC's pay is at or above other manufacturers in the Los Angeles area. We hire entry-level welders and fabricators at or near $16-17/hr. Entry-level is defined as "you've never had a job before". In some cases, entry-level welders have some weld school certifications and city certifications. That's a plus, and would increase their starting salary by $1/hr, however, the certification doesn't mean that you've held a job and have worked reliably. Because of that, you won't get a higher wage at ASC without proof of reliable and long-term employment experience. Even if you come to ASC with some experience, we'll still look at your longevity at other companies and quality of welding (Weld test) to judge where you "fit" in our organization and what wage you should get. ASC makes no implicit promise of a specific raise to new hires, but do promise that if they work hard, show good quality, and show good company values, then they will be rewarded with good yearly raises. Many of our best new hires achieve raises of 7-10% after their first year, and some high-achievers will get much more. If you didn't receive a similar raise, then there must have been quality, safety, attendance, or other disciplinary events in your employment that held you back. Regarding Safety, if you worked here, then you know that ASC has an amazing safety culture and shows that culture every day on the shop floor. Experienced new hires are always amazed at how strong the safety culture is at ASC compared to their previous company. Regarding field work: yes, we have lots of field work, which is discussed with each new hire. We don't promise anyone that they won't travel. Some field installations are short duration and some are much longer, and we make this very clear to all who work here or wish to be hired. Fortunately, most of our employees enjoy travelling. Lastly, no one has ever been terminated for not wanting to work overtime. In reality, our fabrication employees have always been able to get on a "No overtime" list where they will work 8hrs/day with no overtime. In reality, most of our employees like overtime and don't choose to be added to this list. Anyway, It's never good to harbor resentment and hate toward others, so I hope you're able to find something that makes you happy outside of ASC. Good luck with your life and career.

They have their act together

Pros

I've worked at a dozen other companies and ASC is the first one that seems to have their act together. They have a nice facility, outfit it with lots of new equipment, and they have a high focus on safety. ASC is a medium sized company but still has a small company feel. Nice cafeteria with flat screen TVs. There is mandatory overtime (10 hr per day), but I and most of my co-workers like that, especially near Christmas time. Every month they bring free pizza in for all employees. As I said, safety seems like it's the most important thing here, which is much different than my last jobs. My pay is good and benefits are also good. They also pay bonuses to shop guys for working on successful projects.

Cons

Some guys here complain too much. I think they need to quit and see what other companies look like. Shop supervisors and managers are ok but they tend to get a bit exited some times. Engineers can be annoying when they come out and ask stupid questions about their Econoclaves. They should teach us more about the Econoclave especially the plumbing and what the parts do.

Pros and Cons

Pros

A lot of overtime if you want it. Caring for your safety is a plus. It’s a great starter job if you have no experience.

Cons

Then not willing to pay what you’re worth. Your experience outside of ASC as a welder really means nothing , especially welding certifications. I just believe the pay scale for a welder at ASC does not correlate to the amount of work you do and travel required. They’d rather bring someone in with no experience and pay low , then give a guy with tons of experience what they’re worth. From my opinion.

A fairly young group of engineers. - Use newest software (CFD, FEA, Inventor, Compress) - Friendly manager - Company is growing (they're hiring more engineers constantly)

Cons

- Bottleneck getting your drawings and calculations approved. - Can be stressful when deadlines are coming up. - Sometimes tough to get the shop to work on your project - Have to work with some difficult personalities in the shop - Often a time-crunch to get drawings out to the shop

Learning the ropes

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

ASC has lots of work and as a young engineer I'm given lots of responsibility. Instead of working on a small piece of a larger project, I get to design and manage entire millon-dollar projects. It's challenging. I've learned a lot in the couple years I've been here. The people are nice and other engineers are always helpful. Good culture. There are lots of social events that he company sponsors, including impromptu engineering game night. Pay and benefits are good.

Cons

The workload can be difficult at time, especially when you get multiple projects. I've seen other engineers who can't balance everything and they struggle. They have recently added a new manufacturing engineering department, so this should relieve some of the workload. Getting manpower on your jobs is difficult and this can cause your projects to be late.

Thanks for the review. I'm glad that you're being challenged and that you see that as a rewarding experience. We are continuing to add to our engineering staff in order to take on the recent orders, so hopefully we're able to reduce your workload a bit.

Good company

Recommend

Business Outlook

Pros

Pay is good and the work is interesting. The owners care about their employees, and most of the managers are great to work with and very helpful to make sure you succeed in your job. Camaraderie is high. Lots of after-work activities like basketball, game night, bike rides, hiking.

Cons

Workload is usually high, and prioritizing can be tricky, especially if you don't talk to your manager to help you with it. Some people like to spread negativity and shouldn't work there if they don't like it.
