Pros

Work from home options (depending on role). This may be the only pro.

Cons

Unrelentingly understaffed constantly. I have taken on the responsibilities of 5 full time employees who have either left the company or been promoted, and I have no backup. I have not been able to take a vacation in 6 years (yes, 6 years, when I took 4 days for my honeymoon). I worked from a hospital room for 8 days after my wife gave birth and had complications because there was literally no one else who could or would perform my job duties. Currently I'm working on average 12 hours per day and have not had a pay increase worth mentioning in 3 years. I have 4 weeks of paid time off per year, which I usually end up having to take as much as I can in half and quarter day increments. Paid time off does not roll over and I've lost over 500 hours in total since I started. Expectation of being on conference calls at 6 am are routine, as well as working until 8 or later, on weekends, on paid holidays, etc. The company is well aware that as a result of them providing "on the job training" by the time you reach 5-6 years in, you know what you're doing but don't have anything on paper that qualifies you to do it anywhere else. The only reason I am still here is that I know that to leave and go anywhere else would be starting back at square one.

Pros

Able to work from home.

Cons

I worked at this company for three years and my biggest regret is not leaving earlier. The first red flag was the training received. The training is too much information at once without an idea of whether you are on track. Since the structure at Alight is so convoluted it is difficult to really ask questions and find managers with a vested interest. Overall management is uninterested, lazy, and always seems to busy to invest time in employees. Most of management has been with the firm for 15+ years and not interested in growing in their careers making it difficult for younger employees to see a clear career path. Get your hiring profile right! You cannot hire people from good colleges and expect them to be content in a role that is going nowhere at a company that is going nowhere with disengaged managers. After the company was sold to Blackstone leaders were vocal about how the firm would change and bring in a new era. You can’t change the firm when you don’t invest in new technology, better leaders, better training, better pay, etc. The firm was able to stay afloat because of the Aon Hewitt name—but now they have the worst performing part of the company with no reputation. The middle layer managers are completely incompetent for the most part and have no idea how to do anything but manipulate TBA and talk about IRS regulations. The attitude for most managers is to find someone to place blame on when issues arise. An underlying personality trait that I found was that most people who had been there for a while and seemed to like the job were awkward, dull, and were content staring at a computer all day. For those of you still at Alight —get out before the company goes up in flames. For those of you that are looking into a career at Alight —please go elsewhere. And for those of you that have already left —Congratulations you’re in a better place!
