Pros

-Working on your own with no supervision -interacting with friendly customers throughout the day -being able to build friendships with many business owners and managers

Cons

-Long hours -They will promise you overtime pay then say you are on salary and have to work 55 hours a week and only get paid for 40 -management is unorganized and they don't know anything about pricing to help you sell to customers it takes over a day for them to get this info -management will lie and say anything to get you to believe they will pay you a live able salary -worst pay in the industry -ALSCO has a horrible reputation in the marketplace the only reason many customers stay is the loyalty to the RSR that's been overworked serving them the last 10 to 20 years -product is always missing when you need to deliver it to customers from the plant not picking orders correctly -most people that work in the plant only speak Spanish so the language barrier is difficult if you need help with anything -they always overcharge the customer it's deceitful and I was upset at how they take advantage of every customer -I could list cons all day but this should suffice -they promise a set work schedule then make you work on days you are supposed to have off

Good job bad company

Pros

It's tough to find pros here anymore.

Cons

First and foremost this is a dirty business. If Alsco was a reputable company this wouldn't be so bad. It's hard to find a reputable company in the dirty laundry business. However, there was a time when employees were proud to say they worked for Alsco and not one of the competitors. Not anymore. Alsco now does the same thing as every other dirty laundry company. It's sad and disappointing. The mentality these days is to do more with less. Do more work with less people, hire less competent people to do management roles. Overwork your team members so that you can get your bonuses and overinflated salaries but don't compensate them fairly. Take all of the credit for their achievements. Micromanagement is the norm these days. Managers that micromanage their teams are insecure in their own abilities to do a job. They have usually received a promotion for which they are unqualified. That happens a lot here. Hardworking employees are not valued at all. The people who fail at one job, are lazy liars and incompetent are promoted. People with no experience in an area, such as management or HR, are given promotions. It is a very toxic workplace. There are many managers that are negative, toxic, petty, and vindictive. A lot of management is in way over their heads in their current roles and is leading Alsco down a dark path. Their competitors are ready to take their business away from them since Alsco is no longer distinguishable as the exception rather than the rule in our industry. Alsco has become just like every other linen/uniform company with the same business practices. I hope the owners see what is happening soon. Things need to change. Alsco needs some experienced leadership in key roles such as sales, marketing, operations, and HR. For now, if you are a potential employee do yourself a favor and look elsewhere.

Pros

You will get a paycheck, albeit a small one, and it won't bounce.

Cons

There are so many cons to this organization. I do not think the Steiner brothers know what is happening in their own company. The current upper management is a bunch of uneducated, entitled, you owe me, bullies. Good luck trying to get a promotion unless you are in their club. Honestly, this place is horrible. Liars abound. They rip customers off daily and force you to pretend like you are doing them a favor by offering them "special" pricing. Service is non-existent. They spend more time trying to find ways to screw their customers, or not do their jobs, than just doing them. I have never worked with lazier people in my life. Management here cannot get a job anywhere else, which is why they have all stayed in the linen business for so long. It truly is a "dirty" business through and through.
