Pros

Office building is beautiful & in a great location off of I-90 by O'hare and Cumberland Blueline

Cons

Absolutely everything! Poorly managed, in dark ages with technology, Management team only belittles employees to get more work out of them. If someone meets quota, it changes so can never get the promised bonuses, Medical insurance is so expensive that it takes almost half a paycheck each payperiod to cover it Employee only rates. Horrible outsourced HR that never returns phonecalls...need I go on?!

American Financial Management Response

We are saddened to hear of your experience at AFM. We try very hard to be the best company in the world, with a ‘family-like’ work environment. To be the best, we have high expectations for our team and reward our employees that succeed. It is not uncommon for 40%, if not more, of our staff to earn a monthly bonus. Several years ago, we became part of a Professional Employment Organization (PEO). This allowed us to offer our employees the same benefits as much larger companies, including a full-time Human Resource Department. The full-time Human Resource Department was an outlet for you to describe your feelings and, had this been done, we could have immediately addressed your feelings. Unfortunately, we were never aware of your feelings when you worked at AFM, so we were not able to speak with you about them. Our PEO has multiple team members in various HR areas, such as Payroll, Benefits, Flexible Spending Accounts, COBRA, Direct deposit, Onboarding, timeclock punches, Employment verification, address change, amongst many others, that our staff can contact by phone and email. All inquiries are acknowledged by our PEO within 24 hours of receipt. In addition, our PEO offers an Employee Assistance Program, which is available 24/7, and people reach out to this service for many different reasons, even for non-work-related inquiries, such as counseling, family relationships, medical situations, mental health, work-life balance, legal and financial situations, home maintenance, amongst many other items. Annually, we have our employees complete a survey to let us know how we are doing as a company, how our employees feel about working at AFM, our company culture, our management team, items we can improve upon, etc. The responses received over the past few years have been very gratifying and only strengthen year after year. We truly enjoy spending time together as a company. Over the last six months, we hosted an office picnic, an ‘escape room’ event, a Halloween costume contest, a ‘white elephant’ gift giving party, an annual office holiday party, amongst other events and catered meals. We also contributed to, and participated in, a charity walk for pediatric cancer. With respect to your statement about technology, we have an on-site IT person and outsource our IT work to a local company as well. All our employees have dual monitors at their work stations and we take all appropriate measures to protect sensitive client information. As the owner of AFM, I wanted to let you know that I am truly sorry you feel so negatively about your time with us. I wish I could go back in time to do one thing different every single day when you worked at AFM, as maybe the ancillary effects from these different daily activities would have indirectly addressed your negative feelings and overall view of the company. I had no idea you felt the way described within your review and, had I known, I would have made sure you had an open forum to discuss your feelings and, together, worked on an approach to make sure those feelings dissipated, and were replaced with positive feelings as quick as possible. I truly hope you find the right fit with your current, or next, employer and wish you all the best in your future endeavors.

Pros

American Financial Management is the best company I have ever worked for. Prior to AFM, I worked two prior jobs and served in the United States Navy for over 7 years, where I served two tours in Afghanistan. I have been around the world and seen and met many different types of people. One of the main things I love about this company is that ownership truly cares about each employee, not because it’s their job, but because they view each employee as part of their family. AFM conducts different events each month from catering food, company barbeques, bake-offs, holiday parties and many others to bring the family together. I use the word family because they instill that phrase in all employees. We, as a company, are family and will always look out for one another. The owner of the company takes the time to get to know each employee, is always willing to listen to everyone and ensures that the company is operating efficiently. When I worked for other companies, you were treated as an employee and, as long as you got your job done, upper management was happy. However, the other companies didn’t take the time to get to know me though. At AFM, the owner and others in leadership roles ask about my family and kids all the time because they truly care about me. AFM’s Leadership Team recently incorporated core values that they believe in and expect each employee to make every decision based on these core values. Our core values are Honest & Integrity, Empower, AFM Client Focus, Respect and Teamwork. I truly am blessed to have found a home with a wonderful company. Some people spend their whole lives looking for the perfect job and a place to retire and I can honestly say that is that place for me. Being a Veteran, the company was so open to bringing me onboard. I found it to be amazing how much respect they have for military personnel. Two weeks ago, instead of just putting revenue in their pockets, AFM gave back to a charity organization called “Bear Necessities”. In 30-40-degree weather, members of the company went out and walked for this charity to help kids with cancer. The owner himself, after recently having back and spine surgery, walked over 3 miles to support the cause and to represent true leadership to stand beside his employees. The Chief Operating Office literally spends countless hours on improving the company and is always willing to take time out of his day to help each person’s individual growth. AFM provides a great opportunity for professional growth as long as you show up, care and do a good job. I started at AFM about 2.5 years ago at the very bottom in a admin position. Within the past 2.5 years, I have been promoted 4 times and am now the Director of Operations. I want to say thank you to American Financial Management for being such a great and compassionate company and for allowing me the opportunity to work for such an amazing organization. My family and I thank both of you from the bottom of our hearts.

Cons

I didn’t start working here sooner Being a veteran and serving two tours in Afghanistan, I truly believe some people take what they have for granted and always want more. I have learned over the years you can’t please everyone. As I read the negative comment below, I was shocked to see how vicious a disgruntled ex-employee could be. AFM is completely opposite than the picture painted by a past employee. I have seen people struggle, really struggle-each day to get a job and support their loved ones, so it kills me to see how negative and mean some people in this world could be.

Pros

AFM has managed to create a great culture to work in. The people are enthusiastic and there is plenty of positive energy, which creates a great working environment. In addition, management is very approachable and is always willing to help if asked. Also, they go above and beyond to take care of their employees, from team outings, catered lunches and celebrating all events on the calendar.

Cons

It's a dynamic industry. The pace is fast and intense, which makes it challenging, and exciting at the same time.
