Pros

Under the previous executive leadership team, the company was a fair place to work. People were treated well. Communication was good and it felt like all employees mattered.

Cons

New executive leadership team are not good communicators. They often say one thing, then do the opposite. Employees are loooked at through the lense of A, B, & C. B = Benign and C = Cancerous. The environment has become chaotic and people are afraid for their jobs. Unpopular opinions are not welcomed. Layoffs have started. The legacy Stamps.com teams in Los Angles don’t seem to be valued.

A model of corporate dysfunction

Pros

- A nice, well-located office space (although rarely full and no effort made to encourage team/department activities) - Good W/L balance and flexible hours

Cons

- Unless you come into the business with an existing relationship with a senior leader you will struggle to make an impact. Favoritism and nepotism is rampant - Outright hostility between teams and departments. Virtually no collaboration, bullying is common and accepted - A great idea of a vision, but no clear path to get there and no clarity on how individuals/teams can contribute - Leadership has not settled on structures and processes to support growth following VC takeover and acquisitions - No interest in DEI or social causes - Below market pay and benefits with no clear idea of how to gain promotion and get pay rises

Pros

Beautiful Austin office location (spent $10M on the new office). Auctane rose when an investment firm bought the parent company, Stamps.com. The old CEO left and the Auctane CEO became the new parent company CEO. Then they changed the whole company name to Auctane. There are a lot of nice and capable people here at the whole global company.

Cons

Upper management is very arrogant. They read a lot of books and espouse all the key points without actually living them. They think they know it all and do not care about the line level employee. They promote people without experience but rather on proximity to the executive team. Preferential treatment is given to the legacy Auctane/ShipStation team regardless of qualification. This has led to a whole team of poorly qualified people. This doesn't mean they're all bad. They just don't know what they don't know. In some cases, they don't care to know. They speak well and sell the company as people oriented but they aren't. They shift directions over and over. They believe in an agile environment and management style which is code for "chaos". The turnover was high but has gotten higher. Apparently, they planned for 30% attrition after the acquisition but rather than lay people off, they take portions of the job away and ignore them until they quit. They do not value independent thought or diversity of opinion. Everyone knows this. Speaking of diversity, there is no diversity at the exec level. It's mostly white men and a few white females. At a town hall meeting, the new CEO called Black History Month a "controversial" topic. He also said he understands people want to be hybrid but that they should live closer to the Austin office (some of us can't afford that).
