Pros

The pay is pretty good. The technology is much more advanced than the competition

Cons

A culture that encourages sales harassment. With any sales job there is always a level of out reach and cold calling, but BrightEdge takes it to a new level. No matter what your role is on the sales side you will have to call/email your potential sales opportunities daily until they are ready to file a restraining order. EBR's call the same companies over and over again pleading in any way to get them to sit through a demo. When AE's have a new sales opportunity, management forces them to close as quickly as possible with no exceptions. If the client is unable to close in a few months (which hardly anyone ever is) they throw the opportunity back in the churn and the cycle of harassment starts over again. It's a viscous cycle that drives digital marketers into the arms of the competition. Competing technologies are taking more and more business away because they have realized all they have to do is treat clients with an ounce of courtesy and respect to win the business. BrightEdge doesn't care about customers, they care about winning business. If you are only in sales to make money and have no ethics or concept of a moral high ground, you'll fit in great. If you don't believe the negative reviews that are written on Glassdoor, I'd encourage you to go on LinkedIn and try to find someone in sales that has been with BrightEdge longer than 2 years. They are very few and far between.

Brightedge Technologies Response

I am sorry to hear that you had a bad experience on the sales team. In September we had a 100 percent win rate and 100 percent renewal rate. Our clients seem to be happy with our sales methods and technologies. One of our employees who implemented our sales process went from an EBR to an AE in less than a year and closed three deals 22 days into his first month as an AE. SO much opportunity here. We always encourage transparency from employees that way we can make sure you are happy and getting the resources you need to be successful.

Pros

I have to dig deep for this since there aren't many which is why I am looking at other companies right now. The only pro are some of the people here. I will emphasis SOME. Also the first week of training is good, loved the instructor (2nd week is a horrible waste of time). They do have a good product.

Cons

This is where the company stands out. Where to begin... 1) Culture: Highly micromanaged culture (Your calendars are being studied, your emails get tracked, and they record all of your conversations), it is a do as I say not as I do culture. 2) Unethical Selling 3) They started slowly cutting out snacks and drinks in the kitchen. 4) Mandatory call blitz till 6pm weekly. By the way this was created by someone who has never made a cold call in their life. 5) Weekly training: This is a joke, it's more like here is how we are going to micromanage you even more. 6) Training is created by someone who has never sold... Weird huh? 7) Not much career growth opportunities here 8) Low Morale: Seems like everyone is interviewing else where and is not happy to be here 9) Feels like a sweat shop 10) No transparency from the top down, seems as if they are always secretly plotting behind our backs 11) High turnover. High turnover for a reason. Very high turnover for a company. 12) ZERO work life balance. Overtime is required. The minions come into work at 6:30am and usually leave after 5pm. Management and above roles in at 9am and leaves around 5pm yet they enforce the hours. Much much more but you get the idea... Also FYI: Some of these good reviews are fake as instructed by the recruitment team to write fake ones. The really good review looks fake based on the language that was used but thats just my opinion.

Pros

This will be a true review not just fake like the last few that were created by management (no one leaves a company and says that there are no “cons” why would you leave then? There are some really great people working at BrightEdge, however, many of the best are gone due to poor management and lack of evaluation with the product itself. The tool has great possibilities, however, it has fallen behind tools like SEMRush and other small point tools. The customers only stay because of the CSM knowledge (if the CSM understands SEO).

Cons

I worked for BrightEdge for quite sometime and I must say that the one thing this place lacks is culture; they do not celebrate diversity and have made a lot of employees upset because of it. While working at BrightEdge the “N” word has been thrown around multiple time and by a VP that still works for the company. The same VP that used the “N” word also told an employee that “he did not understand what he was saying because he did not speak Mexican” even though the employee spoke perfect English and also the language is “Spanish”. These are just a few of the items that make BrightEdge a difficult place to work. If you ask any prior employee that worked at BrightEdge they will share some of the horror stories that go on in all offices. BrightEdge used to be the leading SEO platform and it is sad that the company cannot keep up with the times.
