Has the potential for greatness but...

Pros

Great place for people that genuinely want to do great things for the children who reside there. Also, upper management is thrilled that they recently struck oil on the property, so there is absolutely great promise for increased spending to benefit the organization, such as newer facilities (i.e. homes for the kids that have updated amenities as opposed to cinder block, one window rooms).

Cons

Unfortunately, the organization is extremely focused on their "numbers" and having their beds filled to keep their sponsors and donors happy, they lose sight of essentials. While the oil/mineral rights will promise lots of money (and thus increased opportunities) over the upcoming years, the small organization seems to undervalue their employees and runs in a very corporate way, as opposed to being a non-profit organization for children. Upper management changes within the last year have proven detrimental to the overall mission of the organization.

Inhumane treatment of houseparents

Pros

- Interacting with residents that appreciate the services offered for free at the ranch - 3 days off - Free housing and no utility bills - Free on ranch doctor visits - Very little commute

Cons

- There were several times when we'd be required to work in a home that didn't have a guest bathroom, so we'd have to drive to our apartment to use the bathroom. - We'd work 6 days straight and many times be pressured to work overtime - They would keep residents that blatantly aren't adhering to the terms of admission, just to keep up their "numbers" to meet unclear organizational requirements - Living where we worked left no work/homelife balance - We were only paid for 12 hours a day and were expected to work 24 hours a day - If somebody covered our earned "Paid Time Off", then we'd be told that we "owed" them - There was a strong emphasis on building relationships with residents, but Alternate Houseparents are used as "hole fillers" in the schedule and would be inconsistently placed in various homes (making it very difficult to build relationships and trust with residents) - On top of the challenging responsibilities as a Houseparent, you were required to do additional duties (i.e. airport runs, ranch tours, in-town doctor appointment runs, etc.) - We were expected to cover the night shift at homes, (upaid and away from our apartment,) sleeping on mattresses that have been slept on by several other employees - There was a great amount of turnover in staff, so other Houseparents would have to pick up the slack and work overtime often.

DON’T DO IT

Pros

Beautiful place, all the animals on the property, the kids are great.

Cons

AWFUL LEADERSHIP! They are inexperienced as most either were House Parents who did a bad job or have never been House Parents trying to make decisions. As a House Parent, you are a warm body. You have no control and no support. It is legit their way or the highway. Administration has actually looked at their employees and said, “You are disposable!” You will regret the decision if you go. Please heed my advice and do not. There are many other places that are actually Christ-centered with just as much and even more learning opportunities through training. They brag about how good the training is there, I will avoid speaking on that.
