Pros

They try to make it a "fun" place to work. Plenty of employee activities.

Cons

Although this company touts itself as one of the best Detroit area companies to work at based on a Detroit Free Press survey, their treatment of workers leaves a lot to be desired. They are hiring, but hire almost exclusively contractors so they can dispose of them at will, like a used tissue. My "temp to perm" contract assignment ended abruptly after my manager learned that I had a minor medical problem that would require minor outpatient surgery (which I could take care of without missing any time from work). The manager of my contract agency said she was very surprised since all prior feedback regarding me had been "glowing." When the agency asked for clarification of why my assignment ended so abruptly, they were told only that "Carhartt isn't required to provide a reason." Undoubtedly, they thought this was a more serious problem than I was letting on and that I would either a) be unreliable or b) drive up their medical costs if they hired me direct. Worst of all, they were so cowardly that they let me go home for the evening and then had the agency phone me at home to tell me not to come back the next day. I never received any negative feedback whatsoever, nor a real explanation of why my assignment ended prematurely, but I'm 100% certain of the cause due to the timing of the end of my assignment.

Pros

Friendly co-worker; everyone cares about the community and making an impact outside of Carhartt; good PTO; free coffee every morning; casual dress code (as long as you have Carhartt on, you can wear jeans); now has a parental leave program!

Cons

need more flexibility in work from home options; benefits could be further improved; leadership plays favorites - very political, but they pretend that they aren't; if you don't become a "favorite", you won't get many growth opportunities; their structure doesn't allow for much career growth; very resistant to change; passive-aggressive conflict style throughout the organization - and this is further rewarded by top leaders; Managers will throw teams under the bus to make themselves look better

We appreciate you sharing your experience at Carhartt and are glad for the positive experiences that you had. We regret, however, that you did not have the opportunity to feel the improvements and progress that we have made and are continuing to strive for. Carhartt works hard to offer all associates the greatest work life balance possible, considered with the needs of the business. This includes providing clear expectations up front for positions that are able, or not able, to offer non-traditional working hours. As well, we have a continuous goal of offering diverse and valuable benefits and year-over-year, we have improved and/or provided exciting new benefit offerings. We are proud for the recent recognition of a Best and Brightest in Wellness® Award for doing so. As we continuously strive to improve, we aim to promote new ideas and developments that will help us further transform Carhartt. Your feedback will be analyzed for consideration on how we can be THE best place to work. If you wish to discuss anything further, please reach out to the Human Resources Team.

The worst

Pros

Healthcare still allows spouses and children. Nice people in most departments.

Cons

Politics. Terrible leaders. Only managers seem to see promotions while entire departments do not. Lots of talking behind backs. Employees are empowered as long as your supervisor knows everything you are doing.
