Pros

I had some great team members.

Cons

Leadership and SDO leads have no idea how to run their accounts. Due to the SDO model, the leads are incredibly unethical and retaliate against any employee that does not behave like a robot. There are empty promises of "we promote if you work hard" when teams are understaffed and teams are literally on the verge of nervous breakdowns due to the workload. Cielo preaches work life balance, but that could not be further from the truth. If you are a favorite, you may move up. If you express concerns you are retaliated against, and if you continue to raise concerns you are further scrutinized and retaliated against further to the point of job loss. Cielo is shipping all lower level positions over seas, and lay offs are a constant. Run far away from this company!!!

Hi, this is Marissa Geist, COO. This is hard to read, especially because the objective of the work we’re doing with Level Up and our Operating Model is to alleviate some of the challenges you mention. Changing the way we work will not only enable us to better meet our customers’ needs, but also help us to better manage workloads across the teams. We know our people are what make Cielo great, and value the talent each of them bring to work every single day, which is why we want to work smarter and do what we can do free up time in their days to focus on the work that matters most – they work they love the most. We did have to make the difficult decision to eliminate some positions last month as we aim to balance our global workforce, and we did a lot to take care of the impacted individuals to help them manage through the transition. We offered a significant notice period and some additional benefits to provide stability and aid in their job search. As far as account transitions go, when they happen, we do everything we can to find positions internally for our employees. In the long-term, changing the way we work will help us to stabilize workloads across teams, and will open the opportunity for us to invest more in our people – more opportunities for learning and development, enhanced benefits, recognition and workplace improvements. If you’d like to talk more, I’m available any time at marissa.geist@cielotalent.com or 262-754-5343.

Not the Company it Used to Be

Pros

You can get promoted quickly by knowing the right people (not even necessarily by being good at your job). Working remotely is wonderful. IF you can manage your time/calendar well, you will have a good work/life balance. Unlimited PTO policy can be a plus to some. In theory, there is availability to move amongst teams and try out different industries. If you get on a good team, you can really build some life-long friendships. In all my time with Cielo, supporting five different client accounts, the clients are great (for the most part)! The partnerships were honestly the best part about my job - I still communicate with hiring managers from 3, 5, 8, 10 years ago.

Cons

All that being said, this is NOT the company it was when Sue Marks was the owner/CEO. Since being sold to an investment firm, things have gone downhill - most evident in the last ten months to a year (which is tough, because the senior leaders ARE good, and WERE good under Sue's leadership, and WILL be good again...at another company...). Now it is all about the bottom line, which is not being met, and all semblance of culture has gone out the window. Layoffs are happening constantly, and (at least on the team I was on/teams I know people on) there seems to be no rhyme/reason as to whom gets the ax. Top performers and fantastic leaders have been laid off since January, with more to come; replaced by workers overseas and inexperienced/unprepared leaders. All the turmoil and change is leading to clients leaving/pulling back work at an alarming rate. Employees that have no business being leaders yet are being promoted to Client Service Managers and managing multiple client accounts, so Cielo's whole 'we become you' thing is out the window, because the knowledge base is also out the window. It's honestly heartbreaking to see a company that was so great turn so quickly. The culture is GONE, replaced by fear, micromanagement, and overwork for those that don't get laid off. Since layoffs are company wide, and the only open positions appear to be in the Philippines/Mexico, it is really tough for those that get a lay off notice to find another team, or for internals to move teams in general now. Unlimited PTO seems like a cool concept, but really is just a ploy so they don't have to pay out unused PTO when people leave. Pay has always been pretty far below industry standard, with most people that leave getting 10-30K more at whatever new position they take, but the culture was always what managed to keep people around. Not so much anymore. It's just very sad to see something Sue worked so hard to build come to this, and for so many tenured employees to be leaving (most on their own accord, as they have seen the writing on the wall)... I say all this as someone not impacted by the layoffs, so this is not a bitter revenge review, it is just my honest viewpoint as someone who has been around since almost the beginning.

Hi there, this is Marissa Geist, CEO. Believe it or not, I read every one of these reviews and this one is pretty disheartening. You’re right that this isn’t the company it was. In fact, I can say that I think we’ve been a different company every year, at least for the past four years. It’s not an excuse – just fact – that since the pandemic hit in March 2020, our business has evolved significantly every single year as a result of the market’s response to circumstances beyond our control. Through all of the change, though, much of what we’re proud of has remained the same. Our commitment to providing better talent experiences for all, the development opportunities we offer, internal mobility, our willingness to be transparent through forums like unscripted town halls, coffee chats, listening sessions, and more. Our people remain committed to not only providing better experiences at work, but also in their communities. What we see them doing as volunteers and in partnership with Celebrate Cielo is inspiring, as is their support for one another. And despite having to reset as we navigate this post-pandemic world, our client renewal rates are stable and our partners are excited about the new products & services we’ve developed this year. We’re going to be ready…together…to shine when the market returns. Your more than 20 years of experience do not go unnoticed and I want to celebrate that for you. You’ve seen this company go through a lot during your tenure, and each time there’s been a downturn, our people, our culture, and our client partners have come out the other end of it stronger than ever. I’m disappointed that you left feeilng the way that you do, but I’m confident that what’s to come will make Sue proud and as a current member of our Board of Directors, she’s one of our biggest cheerleaders. I’m open to talking more if you are. It’s hard to have a great exchange on this anonymous platform, but you can contact me anytime at Marissa.Geist@cielotalent.com. I wish you the best in your next chapter.

Pros

In hindsight, it's a great place to be if you are apathetic. If you can stay clinical and detached that is to your benefit. Co-workers who keep you sane.

Cons

The January purge. Every January there are layoffs and then one is left scrambling in March when you need to desperately re-hire recruiters or support staff that were laid off. Instead of looking at the trends to see that it is a yearly occurrence, it's the typical knee jerk, fix it now and deal with it later reaction. This then causes the mid level managers and recruitment teams to be grossly understaffed when March rolls around. Every. Year. When this occurs, all of the associated issues of being understaffed come around like clock work. Many already addressed on this site. That being said, you may review the previous cons addressed. I'll not be repetitive but read them knowing that most are 100% accurate. Be wary of the really good reviews on this site. Just beware. Know what you are getting into and do not think you will be the exception. Loyalty and dedication are not rewarded. Do not sacrifice time with your family to service a client and company that will drop you without hesitation. Just don't do it.

Hi, this is Marissa Geist. Wow, this post was really tough to read. I have been watching the reviews come in from those affected by the choices we needed to make in January, and I am saddened that so many former employees would think that these choices were made lightly, or without any regard for the service and tenure. The fact is that we make tough choices that ensure the best outcome for the most people at Cielo. Unfortunately, that means sometimes people with long tenure, who have done great things for this company, are affected. The impact you made here over eight years mattered to this company, just like the experiences you gained and will be able to take other places mattered. Eight years at one company in this day and age is quite a feat. I understand why you would warn people off, however, I would ask you when you do settle into a new role and find new success, which I know you will do, to think of your time here as time you grew, learned and made great friends. You did make a difference. You are important to us, and I wish you all the best success in your next adventure.
