Great company, bad management

Pros

Great company, extremely profitable in an up or down economy. Leader in the asphalt and sealant industry. Known world wide for its quality products.

Cons

Management is difficult, they push employees in a high stress environment and often unrealistic goals. They have senior leaders that are clueless and have no idea what they are doing. They pressure disliked employees in ways they finally just quit rather than foster a positive environment of training and growth. They don't mentor employees and teach them well. Very little room for growth of any kind in this company. They seem to hire unskilled external personnel vice promoting within for key roles. Not the best paying company. Decent benefits as benefits go.

Pros

40 hrs. Potential for growth. Good hours. Moderate pay. Moderate micro-management. Ability to communicate effectively with upper and lower levels at the facility. Upgrading to SAP.

Cons

Little to no training. Closed door policy. Hushed whispers and secretiveness around the office. Office manager didn't allow success in position by not explaining any relevant procedures or practices. No SOPs written or available. No tour of the facility or operations.

Pros

I wanted so badly to stay at this company forever. The company itself has a great product, has decent benefits (except for dental...), and the company makes an effort to build up morale on a regular basis.

Cons

All the positive stuff about this company is all moot due to the fact that many middle-aged (and older) man-children are running amok all over the hallways like cockroaches. What's worse, everyone knows who these man-babies are and that they act a fool, but no one says anything because everyone's afraid of getting fired for insubordination. Due to this fear these man-children are allowed to continue to abuse their team members, huff and puff like babies during meetings, and throw hissy fits when wording in brochures isn't exactly the way they would have done it themselves (and how DARE you not intuitively know that). To make matters worse, these man-children really do hold the company back from reaching its true profit potential. Due to the fact that these man-children tend to be super close to retirement, they purposely poo-poo on others' efforts to modernize, streamline, and automate things because that would imply that they would have to learn something new and perhaps even prove their worth/value. Instead of wanting what's best for the company, these men just want to be able to doze off on their thrones and reminisce on their past efforts that got them to their supposedly-earned positions of glory.
