Pros

- Pay is reasonably competitive. It isn't exceptional for new hires but it isn't bad by any means. It is around what you'd get at FAANG. - Tech stack isn't outdated at this point. Still some legacy tech but emphasis is on technologies that you could transfer to new jobs in the future. (React, Kotlin, TypeScript, etc.) - People I've encountered are nice enough - I feel like I have pretty good WLB at the moment

Cons

- Everything within this company is hugely YMMV. I know people who quit within 3 months of joining because they couldn't deal with it anymore. - Your manager, director, and specific sub-team dictate your entire experience way more than they should. - Still a lot of problematic code, old systems, tech debt, and so forth. - Culturally, kinda bland. No hate on the people but the personalities definitely don't shine during this remote time. Again - YMMV. - Very little emphasis on the social side of things, very high emphasis on the work. Seems like an anti-social company overall. (At least at this point - things may have been different long ago) - Outside of the lifers (very very few), there's a strong feeling that people want to leave as soon as they're done vesting. I can't tell if it's baggage, trauma, or just a desire to be changing places all the time but I get that feeling from a lot of folks who have been at the company for a while. They're not passionate or interested in the job much - they just give off these vibes of doing their job and cashing in a check. - Benefits are bad. You get a small taxable gym benefit, some wifi benefit for rest of year, a $750 stipend for WFH equipment, and that's about it... No doordash food for lunch. Even with offices coming back, benefits will be little to none. It is NOT Google or FB when it comes to benefits. I see very little reason to go into the office when it does come back fully and I can see why my peers feel the same - it's just a bland corporate office environment. Comes back to that... come in, work, check out, and cash out type of culture. People are just trying to get by and not thrive. - Very little attention is paid to employees unless problems are coming up. For those who are high growth mindset, this is difficult because you need a lot more 1:1 time. Sadly, this company feels more like code factory rather than innovation or solving on a bigger scale. Wouldn't be a huge issue but it's also not a code factory that makes you great at coding either. - Onboarding is a joke. Documentation is non-existent. Most best practices are optional. I'm not sure how long I'll be here. Although I feel like I've managed to luck out with the area that I'm working in, the team, etc.... I don't feel passionate about it at all or that I'm given very much attention.

Pros

The people are the best part of DoorDash. Lots of people there are driven, friendly, and great to work with. The mission is exciting too; it has a lot of real world impact in making both consumer and driver lives better. And the operations side of the business is incredible, that's where the real exciting part is.

Cons

There's a lot of downsides. 1) Despite having a ton of money, DoorDash does not pay well at all. Instead of getting paid, you'll often get options which are pretty worthless. And management is not transparent about anything related to financials. Which leads to: 2) DoorDash pretends to be transparent and open but really, it's taking initiatives in these spaces to check a box. A lot of management is too junior and has no real world experience and don't know how to tackle culture issues. 3) Terrible Engineering The operations portion of the business is excellent; the engineering talent is not. If you're a software engineer with serious aspirations, don't work here. It's a very relaxed environment but at the expense of software engineer practices and quality code. 4) Zero mentorship People are bad and they stay bad. There's a lot of potential at DoorDash but no one takes the time to better themselves or those around them. 5) Poor Hiring DoorDash has a massive problem with hiring. There are several instances where engineers have been hired and their skills were so misrepresented that they were demoted or fired. DoorDash lets really unskilled engineers through the door and then doesn't fire them when the hiring decision doesn't work out. 6) Lack of Accountability Because most people are bad at what they do there, there's this strange tendency for no one to question the work of others making it incredibly easy to skate and fly under the radar. You could easily not contribute code for months and almost no one would know.

Very Dynamic and Open Culture

Pros

The company has a very dynamic and open culture. What is more important DoorDash cares to maintain this culture and works hard to hire the right people with the right attitude. People are willing to both listen and to share knowledge and ideas. The compensation is fair. Also, a lot of efforts is being made to create an inclusive and diverse environment. Finally, there is a lot of smart and talented people here at the company.

Cons

This is a very young company "age-wise", so you might run into situations when meetings are scheduled late at night, which parents with kids wouldn't do. However, even that is manageable because of the Pros described above.
