Good starter corporation

Pros

Market competitive compensation. Positive work-life balance. If you are not ambitious or tend to care about the customer than you will be perfectly happy here. A great starter corporation for either the young, recently graduated or experienced individual who never worked at a large brand-name organization. Spend 2 years top and leverage your experience to move on to another company.

Cons

Ultra-Conservative company in how it operates, not politically. A company clearly afraid of change, adaptation and the future. Promotions are reserved for people who quietly built tenure or the truly incompetent but politically skilled. The type of large company that would rather lay-off and staff up in mass instead of following proper business planning and change management strategies. Find a way to keep your skills sharpened outside of work because if you stay too long you will be a lesser employee at your next, more long term opportunity. Management is detached both from lower level employees and the customer. This is not a "Think Customer" organization! Tends to lie about what your job will be to get "talent". Right now, if you didn't go to a top 15 MBA program and get recruited than you will not be taken seriously. Many people start their careers here to end up scratching their heads just a few months later because they aren't doing what they thought they were hired to do. Remember, HR is there to protect management...NEVER TALK TO HR! Very toxic culture, again unless you just got out of a top 15 MBA or are very skilled politically, if either or both of those are true than congratulations you have found the company you will retire with, of course after being passed around to 8-9 different business units because your incompetence will eventually become too obvious to maintain respect at any one place for too long. But corporate will never get rid of you so your good if you can live with the internal sadness of spending $100k on education and still be kind of dumb.

Pros

If you keep your head down you can just glide through

Cons

Good old boys club. No advancement. Openly discriminates against minority, disabled and older workers.
